PanGenex answers common questions following the
Florida Chiropractic Association National Convention and Expo
PanGenex would like to thank all you who came by to visit us at our booth during the Florida Chiropractic Associations annual meeting at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center this past weekend.
We were very pleased at the overwhelming, positive reception of our concentrated Omega-3 essential fatty acids fish oil products.
PanGenex met with over 500 practitioners from all over the nation and had the opportunity to talk with other vendors, many of whom expressed interest in replacing their lower quality Omega-3 fish oil products with our >86% concentrated omega-3 fish oil products LIPIDEME and Omeganol.
Our mission is simple; to formulate the best, most responsible, and medically proven supplements available and to offer these supplements at value prices to our professional partners and customers.
We were amazed at the high level of understanding regarding dietary supplements and nutrition that we received from practitioners at the meeting. The following list shows the most common questions...
Question: What does 86% concentration mean? The omega-3 fish oil I use in practice says its 1200 mg???
Answer: Most fish oil supplements list, in LARGE font, the total amount of fish oil concentrate on the front of the bottle in what is called the “principle display panel”. That number, typically in mg, shows the total amount of bulk fish oil in the product. Many people THINK this is the amount of heart healthy omega-3s.
Actually, the amount of fish oil in the product is meaningless. What matters is the amount of omega-3 essential fatty acids. Unfortunately, the majority of fish oil sold contains little more than 30% omega-3s and even the best, most premium (and expensive) fish oil product contain merely 60-70% omega-3s.
Both Omeganol and LIPIDEME use the most concentrated omega-3 fish oil available. At >86%, our fish oil provides over 1000 mg omega-3 EFAs in only 1200 mg of fish oil. To get 1000 mg of omega-3 EFAs from the off the shelf product, one would have to take nearly 4 grams of FAT providing excessive extra calories and presenting a potential negative impact to blood lipids.
Question: If typical fish oil is only 30% omega-3 EFAs, what else is in there?
Answer: That depends on the source of the blend, the type of fish, and the type of processing. In general, the non-omega-3 content of fish oil is fat. Commonly, omega-6, omega-9, and mixed triglycerides are present. You will have to ask the specific manufacturer for a complete listing of ingredients, however most companies don’t even know.
Omeganol and LIPIDEME contain 86-90% omega-3 EFAs. The rest is mostly Oleic Acid (C18:1), a little bit of Linoleic Acid (C18:2) and some C20:1 and C22:1.
Question: Why don’t I see vitamin E (tocopherol) in the supplement facts for Omeganol and LIPIDEME? Don’t all fish oil products have to use as an antioxidant?
Answer: After much research, the physicians and chemists of PanGenex decided to use tocotrienols instead of the common form of vitamin E, tocopherol. Tocotrienols are 60 times more potent antioxidants than common E and there is a significant amount of clinical research showing that tocotrienols may actually lower cholesterol by slowing down the activity of a key enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis in the liver.
A part of the vitamin E family, tocotrienol research is growing monthly and studies show that tocotrienol provide a myriad of health benefits from cardiovascular health, immune health, and efficacy in cell lines regarding certain types of cancer.
Question: LIPIDEME and Omeganol are similar products, both using the same concentrated omega-3 fish oil…so how do I explain the difference to my patients?
Answer: Omeganol is a top tier, quality fish oil product that combines concentrated omega-3 fish oil with pure delta and gamma tocotrienols. This product should be taken by anyone concerned about cardiovascular health and who desires to benefit from the many reported benefits of omega-3s including brain health, immune health, mood enhancement, skin and hair health, etc.
LIPIDEME takes the same concentrated fish oil and tocotrienols but adds plant sterols (phytosterols) and coenzyme Q10 to the formulation. LIPIDEME provides all the same benefits of Omeganol, but is formulated to specifically address blood lipids like triglycerides and cholesterol.
Phytosterols, derived from plants, act to block the absorption of cholesterol from food we eat in the intestines. They have been studied for decades and the FDA has issued a qualified health claim stating that taking phytosterols “may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease” when at least 1300 mg is taken daily, split into two doses.
Coenzyme Q10 is a potent antioxidant that promotes heart health and cardiac muscle function. It also provides energy and may have a positive effect on certain other cardiovascular problems.
Question: What is in your phytosterol blend?
Answer: We use one of the most studied phytosterol blends. Our blend is comprised of mixed phytosterols including brassicasterol, campesterol, campestanol, stigmasterol, beta-sitosterol, beta-sitostanol, D5-avenastanol, D7-avenasterol, and other sterols. It also contains a slight amount of mixed tocopherols and ascorbyl palmitate.
Question: Why do I have to take LIPIDEME in two separate servings? Do I have to split the serving of Omeganol too?
Answer: The reason that we suggest taking 2 LIPIDEME soft gels with your two largest meals of the day is because of the function of the phytosterols. Since they have been shown to block the absorption of dietary cholesterol, taking a split serving around mealtimes help to maximize the benefits of the supplements.
We recommend that you take 2 Omeganol soft gels with your evening meal. Research shows that tocotrienols are much better absorbed on a fed stomach. Also, research shows that a majority of cholesterol is synthesized at night while we sleep.
